Tavern 12 A Great Place To Eat Lunch & Watch A Game

It was cold on that Tuesday afternoon as I walked down Post Rd. The wind cut through me like a sharp sword through cold butter. I was starting to get hungry, real hungry, when all of a sudden I noticed Tavern 12 located at 2299 Post Rd IN Warwick Ri.

I decided to hunker down and get some tasty grub. I Finally made it to the door, the warmth felt good on my cold bones. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by the woman behind the bar, named Mary. Her big warm smile was inviting and was a welcome comfort.

As I looked over the lunch menu I knew this would be a tough challenge everything sounded wonderful. I remember wondering if I should start with the large juicy deep fried chicken wings or the appetizer combo also known as heaven on a platter. Then I noticed that they served chili cheese fries. It was as if Tavern 12 read my mind. Fresh hot french fries smothered in spicy chili and a rich warm cheddar cheese sauce was right up this Revolutionary War generals alley.

Besides being mesmerized by the 30 HD televisions perfectly mounted around the tavern for watching a game or multiple games, music from the 50‘s and 60‘s played on the stereo. As Mary refilled my glass of water I decided to order lunch.

I was able to narrow my decision between the savory pulled pork sandwich and onion rings or the turkey burger with hand cut sweet potato fries. I was hungry, real hungry and had a long walk home. I needed my nourishment. I ordered both sandwiches and sides.

I couldn’t help but notice all the great sports memorable on the walls. Ironically I couldn’t help but notice that all the jerseys had the number 12 on them. Was it coincidence or a strategic theme? That was a question to ponder for another time.

Before I knew it ,my lunch had arrived. The savory smell of slow roasted pulled pork and tangy BBQ sauce on a fresh soft bakery roll delighted my senses. I couldn’t wait to take a bite. The BBQ pulled pork was everything a pulled pork sandwich should be. I chewed slowly, savoring every bite. The fresh bakery roll brought an added dimension of delectability to this perfectly crafted sandwich.

My turkey burger was equally delicious and cooked to perfection. Now I must confess I am not a big fan of the sweet potato but upon Mary’s recommendation I decided to give them a try. I must say I was very surprised by the taste and flavor. Cut fresh daily and cooked, as a french fry should be. They were savory, crisp and sweet. I must say my lunch was divine and well worth the stop.

Tavern 12 also offers Karaoke hosted by Mike Marrocco every Wed and Friday night, different drink specials depending on the day of the week and the particular game that is on. From what I gathered from talking to the patrons sitting around the bar, there is .25 cent wings and 2 dollar drafts during every game.

My belly was full and I need to head out. I had a long day ahead of me. As I was leaving, Mary smiled and invited me back. I smiled and said thank you, I will. Next time I must save room for the caramel apple martini, a piece of homemade apple pie served in a martini glass covered in warm caramel and whipped cream.

My lunch was delicious and affordable. If you are in the area and are looking to grab a bite to eat, why not give Tavern 12 a try. You won’t be disappointed and make sure you tell them Nate sent you.
